Newberry Hospital is the only outpatient rehabilitation facility in Newberry County to provide all three disciplines of pediatric therapy− physical, occupational and speech. This is a significant benefit, as children often need more than one type of therapy.
Our pediatric rehabilitation services help children from birth through the teen years who are experiencing difficulties with motor development, communication, and feeding. We are problem solvers who treat each child’s unique needs and goals. A team approach is used to promote development and help children adapt and succeed at home, school and daycare.
We offer Neuro-Developmental Therapy (NDT), a treatment approach well suited for children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, and other neurological disorders. NDT employs handling techniques that teach children how to move more normally while increasing muscle tone. Parental involvement is key to NDT; parents are taught to work with their children at home. This can help children progress more quickly.
Regardless of the type of therapy a child receives, we place a strong emphasis on the follow-through, which includes educating parents and school therapists about children’s needs and progress. If your child is experiencing developmental delays, talk with your pediatrician or family physician. A referral to our services may help your child’s development.
