Newberry Hospital’s Award-Winning Joint Replacement Program Scores a Three-Peat, Named Among Top 10% in the Nation for 3rd Year in a Row

Newberry Hospital has proved that a hospital doesn’t have to be big to be among the best in the nation. What it does take is a commitment to providing each patient with high quality, safe care, and that’s exactly what we do! We are fortunate to have exceptional orthopedic surgeons – Palmetto Bone & Joint – as our partners!

Ranked Among Best in Nation 3 Years in a Row by Healthgrades

Healthgrades® is a leading independent healthcare ratings company that provides objective reviews of hospitals and physicians so consumers can make informed decisions about their healthcare.

In 2012, Healthgrades awarded Newberry Hospital its Five-Star Ratings for Joint Replacement, Total Knee Replacement and Total Hip Replacement. Newberry Hospital was ranked third in South Carolina for Joint Replacement and among the top 10 percent in the U.S. based on how well our patients do after surgery. According to Healthgrades, patients treated at a five-star rated hospital experience a 73 percent lower risk of mortality and a 63 percent lower risk of complications compared to one-star rated hospitals.

Joint CommissionFor the second year in a row (2013), Healthgrades has awarded Newberry Hospital its Five-Star Rating for Joint Replacement, Total Knee Replacement and Total Hip Replacement. Healthgrades also awarded us the 2013 Joint Replacement Excellence Award. According to the publication, American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2013: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, joint replacement at Newberry Hospital is in the top 10 percent in the nation. The report evaluates how approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for nearly 30 of the most common conditions treated and procedures performed from 2009 through 2011. Newberry Hospital is among the best!

Nationally Certified by The Joint Commission

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 19,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States.

In November 2012, Newberry Hospital became the first hospital in the Midlands to earn national certification from The Joint Commission for its knee and hip joint replacement program. It is one of only six in South Carolina to be nationally certified. Joint Commission certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting high standards of performance.

Newberry Hospital CEO Ron Vigus said Joint Commission accreditation validates the hard work and dedication put forth by the entire hospital staff and Palmetto Bone and Joint’s orthopedic surgeons. National certification speaks to the quality, safe care, and positive outcomes delivered to joint replacement patients, a growing number of which come from outside Newberry County.

Choose the Hospital Known for Quality and Safety

With a growing number of adults having hip and knee joint replacements, having a nationally ranked and accredited hospital for joint replacement surgery in South Carolina is good news. Safety is always a concern of patients, particularly with invasive surgical procedures like joint replacement. It makes sense for patients to choose an award-winning hospital like Newberry Hospital for joint replacement.
